HEELS UNDER MY FLATS!?
CHAPTER – 3
‘Uff!!!’ , I sighed as I drank a full bottle of water not because I was thirsty but that I was shivering about the mission that my crush should have avoided. Well, you guys should drink a lot of water, because it’s summer and Welcome to the story again! However, I did not even enter the house because I was looking for answers in the streets. I was staring at Anuksha for some sentences that would give me a valid reason for the ‘freaking’ moment we all were having.
“What is it Anuksha? Speak out for god’s sake! Please!”, I yelled at her with a very stern voice and with a dreadful expression.
“There has been a mistake Shreya!”, she said with her eyes low.
“A mistake? EXPLAIN IT!” I was literally yelling at her and my other friends who were in the house already, came out to see who rung such a horrible ‘calling-bell’.
She met my eyes and I saw how frightened she was at that moment. “Aadarsh and I …“, before she could continue, Aadarsh is none other than this tall, fit and handsome guy, who’s crazy as hell and caring as heaven. This was easy for you to guess, isn’t it, well, yes, he was my CRUSH. We know each other since school / rather from our 9th grade and ever since have been close friends, who would do anything for each other. No, he does not know that I have a special-liking towards him and I decided to keep it that way, because he is not a play-boy and he has never been in any relationship so far, as he believes in that ‘one- true love’ aspect. Now, I can’t take risks in letting him know how I feel about him unless it stays mutual. Okay, coming back to Anuksha’s explanation.
“Aadarsh and I decided to surprise you, but I know that would be a crazy thing to do, so I asked him to cancel it. No probs, Chill out, let’s keep the party going!!” she said / rather was just blabbering, I guess.
“Wow, this explanation is as clean as my foot!” I lost my temper. I gave her stern and curious looks for which she reciprocated with frightened look.
“What was the surprise about ANUKSHA?” I asked her.
“Uhh… let’s just leave it, it did not happen anyway, so forget it.” she said while trying to keep a cool gesture.
I gave her a stare that she almost got roasted in it.
“SAY IT, NOW!” I said and stood firm to the place as if my legs were glued to the ground.
“We… He… I…” she kept dragging.
“I know the English language quite well. Can we get to the SURPRISE element now, please?” I just begged her, literally.
“Aadarsh and I decided to show up at your house today and we thought of just dragging you out from your house, like a baggage. “ She finally spilled the beans out, but not the whole lot.
“WOW!!!!” I said with my lips stretched wide apart.
“And that’s not it. The main part is when I wake you up, so that you could see Aadarsh, your dream love, standing in a sniff distance from your dirty mouth and listen to him propose to you!” She said it in the most dramatic form ever. “But things got out of hand and we had to cancel the plan. So sad!” she said.
I stood paralysed with this huge sack of shock that Anuksha has just poured on me.
I was shocked for several reasons, 1. AADARSH LOVES ME TOO?, 2. A PROPOSAL IN MY HOUSE? REALLY?, 3. A GUY IN MY HOUSE AND THAT TOO IN MY BEDROOM ATA SNIFFING DISTANCE FROM MY MOUTH? , 4. WHY WOULD ANUKSHA DO THIS TO ME?, while I was thinking of all these questions was when I got the most crucial question to ask.
“Wait, you cancelled the plan, but you told Aadarsh about it just now, right in front of me and then you did apologise to me, WHAT HAPPENED? You have a better explanation for that?” I asked her with huge clouds of tension.
“See, the things is…” before she could continue any further, I got a call from my mother. ‘DAMN, DAMN, DAMN’, I thought to myself.
I had my mobile in my sweaty shivering hands and for some reason, I refused to pick that call, but my friends are so supportive. One of my friends from the atmosphere (you know, all of my other friends were standing behind me and were enjoying the conversation I was having with Anuksha, as though I was the lead actor and they, the ones who fill the empty spaces in the frame.) took my phone, did slide that green colour on my mobile screen and made it stick to my ears with my fingers for its support. We call her Sulochana, and she’s currently pursuing medicine in Bangalore. I know her since childhood days, mostly it’ll be Anuksha, Sulochana and me in the trio-gang. Let’s keep this introductory session later, I can’t bear my mom’s yelling voice over the phone.
“SHREYA, HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME?” she asked, as I wasn’t responding.
With sweat racing down my knees from my forehead, I said, “Yes amma, what is it?”
“WHAT IS THIS AADARSH FELLOW DOING IN OUR HOUSE? HE SAYS THAT HE WANTS TO ASK YOU FOR MARRIAGE! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?” my mom yelled and I fainted.
“Come back next Friday, we’ll make her answer to all of your queries!” said Sulochana as I lost my last bit of consciousness.
