HEELS UNDER MY FLATS!?
OMG!!! Keep it low guys, I know you are anxious to know what happened, but my mom is still near me, let us not disturb her? Please? But yes, welcome back and thank you for waiting!
“WHAT?????? NOOOOOOO, NOT IN MY HOUSE!” was the exclamation that my mom made when I spoke the truth.
‘What on Earth was that truth?’ this can be your mind-voice and I get it, no I mean, I’m getting to that topic.
I’m a teenage girl, the typical one, you know, the one who fantasies love, the one who believes in hope and friendship and about how strong-willed one needs to be, to save the world. Now the real problem was not that I believed in fantasies but when I wanted to bring that to action in the Hitler’s abode. Eventually my mom was my Hitler, and for the rest of the family that consisted of my two maternal grandparents, my dad and my elder sister (the latter 2 got lucky with their absences though!).
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind if someone says ‘friends’ and ‘teenagers’? Party? Or hangout? Or a trip? BINGO!! That’s it. A TRIP!!
We, which includes, my school friends, whose name list comes around 10 and the innocent chap who’s narrating you all these, we decided to go on a trip to the land of beaches and beach parties only. Any guesses? Exactly it was GOA! (We are the good kids, trust me!)
I know my mom is very strict and that she’ll never allow me to go on a co-ed trip to the land of parties but it was our last trip together, as my best friend Ms. Anuksha, was to become Mrs.Anuksha in another 30 days. I was selfish, I am selfish and I wanted to be that way, because all I wanted to do was to enjoy and bid a sweet and crazy farewell to my Anuksha’s bachelor days.
Am I that old? Oh, please, I’m not for marriages now, I just got out of my UG college, but with Anuksha, she met her love of her life and decided to move to the next level. Apparently, I did not meet anyone like that recently apart from my lovable mom.
Now with her loud exclamation being the topic of gossip in my house, I stood paralyzed as my mom gave a stare at me, like Lord Shiva did to his foes. The place was definitely burning like hell, for, 1. It is summer at its peak and 2. My mom’s angry. Nobody had any control over these two things but I badly wanted to take control of both. So, I moved my limbs a little further towards my mom while her eyes were still on me. After about minutes of sleek walking/ dragging, I felt my breath near her’s.
Apparently, she wasn’t ready to listen to any of my wonderful words but never mind, I gently took her hand and asked her to come inside the bedroom so that we could speak things in private. To my surprise, we were already inside the room and I did turn on the AC to control the heat.
I took a deep breath and I said, “Amma, it’s high time we start speaking things clearly. It’s for my best friend. You know her too; don’t you think she’d feel bad if I don’t make it up to the trip? She literally begged me to come. So please, just let me go, I’ll be back in another 4 days. “
“WHAT????? 4 DAYS??” my mom shouted.
“Amma, please! Can you please not raise your voice? It’s just 4 days we’ll be fine. I promise.” I assured her.
“YOU’LL BE FINE? REALLY? In that case, when’s the trip?” she asked.
I was quite taken aback with her reply but I somehow managed to produce answers. “We are leaving tomorrow amma, early in the morning and for that I have to leave to her house tonight, which means I have to leave in another 30 mins. So, can I go?” I asked.
“IN ANOTHER 30 MINS??? AND YOU DID NOT TELL ME THIS BEFORE?” she argued.
“I was just afraid you’ll not listen to me, just like the days in the past. So, I thought you’d somehow listen to me if I was standing on the edge of a cliff and you just did. I’m sorry though.” I said with my face down.
“GREAT! How many are up for the trip?” she asked with slight sarcasm in her eyes.
“There are 11 of us, you know the usual school gang!” I added the last part in order to provide some confidence to my mom as she knew all of my school friends very well.
“Fine! Now that you are already on the cliff, let’s not waste time. Get your bags and get going and tell Anuksha that I need my daughter back with everything in their respective places.” She said this with a wink.
“WHAT??????? IS THIS FOR REAL???? MY MOM AGREED TO LET ME OUT OF THIS HOUSE AND THAT TOO WITH MY FRIENDS? TO GOA???” I thought while I shared a big smile with my mom.
When I came out of the room, I felt like I was a movie star and that each of those neighbors were my die-hard fans, waiting for me to talk. Unfortunately, there was no time for a ‘fan-hero‘ moment, so I kept doing my business of packing while I gestured them to mind their business of praying and eating.
When I was about to say my byes to the family, I got a call from Anuksha.
“Hey, all set? You in or you out? You better be in!! Pleaseeee??” she said
I looked at my mom and with a great grin, I said, “I’m totally…” before I could finish, my mom made another exclamation. This time I definitely lost it.
“Amma, can we, for one moment not make any exclamations? Please? What is it now?” I asked
“ARE THERE ANY BOYS ON THE TRIP?” she asked with raised eyebrows and I fell off the cliff
because I knew this question would never produce any positive results. Moreover I wanted to go not just for my bff but because my all-time crush was on board too. I know, WHAT A PITY!!!
Now, for what are you waiting exactly? To know what happened? Here’s what happened, I DIED. GAME OVER! BYE!
Oh no! Sorry, I’m a bit off the plate right now, so, why don’t you guys take a week break and come back again, I’ll tell you if I really made it to the trip or not, but for now, let me rest in peace! Thank you!
