THE SUCK-SESSION OF EXCLAMATIONS!
‘Home’, is a feeling. Now, is it a happy or a sad one? I think it depends on the those who run through the bloodline or through the relation pipes that connect one another. ‘Family’ is also about shared characters and traits, or is it so? Well, family is not just about these, it also depends on the events and experiences that happen inside those lines and branches that spread through the walls and ceilings.
My family is one among the best you can see because they love me as much as I love them. Isn’t it sweet to know a mutual consent of love among many souls? Or is it even mutual? Because I feel that they love me so much more than I do love them!!
“Wake up SHREYAAAAA!!!!!! This is why I keep telling you to sleep early. Now wake up, you can’t be sleeping like this when the sun is already out in the sky! Oh my god, are you even listening to me? Stop dreaming and WAKE UP!!”, my mom yelled.
That was a perfect alarm. Don’t you think? Now who could restrain that loud, sweet voice that goes right into your ear’s core and rings the bell in your head?
“What Amma? Why so early?”, I asked my mom as I stepped down my paradise of heaven.
“WHAT???? You don’t know? Now, go get ready, fast, it’s the day of auspiciousness. Don’t spoil the aurora with your foul smell. Hurry up.”, she said.
I am this good girl who would obey each and every word that my elders tell me and so here I was, well-dressed in my casual kurti, and as I moved around the floors of my home, I felt I was walking through Delhi’s roads in winter, choked with smog while my mom regarded it to be the heaven’s abode.
As the clock struck 9 in the morning, my house was already brimming with chorus of bajans as a tribute to the almighty who hung in different shapes on the wall and some rested on the tables, adorned with flowers and other materials. A house isn’t just about one family on an auspicious day, but a collection of many. My entire street was there in my house as I sat near the gods and goddesses, for the rest of the day.
Once the prayer was over, sweets and other items were distributed while I kept checking my watch and when it was 5 pm, I started to shiver and my legs trembled. All those voices around me went shallow and all I wanted to do was to step up to my family and speak up. I moved inch by inch and with little struggle through the hideous floors, I finally spotted my mom. I took courage and went to her and spoke up, but trust me I regret it till now, for, she gave me my biggest nightmare with her loud exclamation, ‘WHATTTT???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!’, that she almost sucked all the smog and voices inside her mouth and for an instance, I was there, in the center with a focus light above my head and sweat in my palms.
‘THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. NOT IN MY HOUSE!’ my mom made a firm statement.
Now, didn’t I tell you that my family loves me so much? Well, I am Shreya, your narrator and as well as the poor little teenage girl in the story and I humbly welcome you to my life and its interesting stories. If you’ll excuse me, why don’t you come back next Friday to know why my mom made such an exclamation and I’ll prove to you how much she loves me, but as for now, my mom needs me, so BYE and Shhh, this story stays with us, Promise?
